LUID KAYU, ABE! The City College of San Fernando Pampanga (CCSFP) takes pride in its role in the development of Learning Resources (LRs) for the pilot implementation of the K to Grade 10 MATATAG Curriculum.
This national initiative, aimed at advancing DepEd’s MATATAG Curriculum, was led by the Philippine Normal University (PNU) through its Research Institute for Teacher Quality (RITQ) and the Department of Education’s (DepEd) Bureau of Learning Resources, where educational institutions across the country collaborated to shape the curriculum.
CCSFP stands out as one of only two Local Colleges and Universities (LUCs) nationwide, alongside the University of Makati, and as the only LUC from Region 3 to participate in this endeavor.
Alongside private Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) & Technical Education Institutions (TEIs), DepEd schools, and State Universities and Colleges (SUCs), CCSFP’s involvement highlights the institution’s strong commitment to educational excellence and national development.
The MATATAG Curriculum, now in its first phase of implementation, is a key component of DepEd’s ongoing reforms aimed at strengthening the basic education system in the Philippines. It focuses on enhancing foundational skills such as literacy and numeracy, while integrating values education and 21st-century competencies to better equip learners for higher education, employment, and lifelong learning. The curriculum seeks to address learning gaps, improve educational outcomes, and create a more effective K to Grade 10 education program.
The CCSFP team contributed to this project from October 2023 to June 2024 was led by Vice President for Academic Affairs and International Engagements, Dr. Melanie G. Viloria-Briones, who served as a writer for Grades 9 and 10 English.
Also leading the team was Institute of Education Dean Dr. Kimberly G. Mallari, who took on dual roles as a writer for Grades 4, 5, and 6 Mathematics and as a validator for Grades 5 and 6 Mathematics. Dr. Mahlen B. Antonio served as a writer for Grades 5 and 8 English and as a validator for Grades 7 and 8 English. Dr. Melanie O. Junio contributed as a writer for Grade 9 Science (Chemistry), while Dr. Rosalie P. Cayabyab focused on writing for Grade 4 Mathematics.
Their contributions ensured that the MATATAG Curriculum is not only aligned with national standards but also enriched with practical insights to benefit Filipino learners nationwide. The hard work, dedication, and expertise of these Fernandino educators exemplify CCSFP’s commitment to excellence in education.
